Located just minutes from the town centre of lismore on the far north coast, the eye clinic, pathology and radiology, st josephs is co-located in the grounds of st vincents private hospital providing residents ease of access to services such as pharmacy, hydrotherapy pool and specialist medical centre.

St Josephs Nursing Home Lismore, established by the Catholic Diocese of Lismore in 1936, is a community occupied together in faith, hope and charity, providing quality health concern marked by compassion and respect for the human person in the spirit of Jesus Christ. The hospital which was located in a weatherboard residence now obvious as tarpons’ comprised of a convent, three wards, ten beds and an operating theater. The Sisters of Charity, looking to further prosper the hospital, purchased a house in Avon dale Avenue where a Hospice was established. St Joseph’s Hospice was officially opened in 1937 providing accommodation for twelve patients. Patients were transferred from the Hospice to the Nursing Home and the building which is currently home to the Carroll center was made available for community projects. St Josephs Nursing Home has evolved into the home it is today which prides itself in providing specialist care for the fragile aged and recognized for its expertise in palliative and dementia care. As a nonprofit organization, St Josephs appreciates and values the generosity of individuals and organizations in the community who support particular programs and facilities. The home has a dining room, pastime areas with important screen TVs and an inner courtyard. Fees conceal all nursing and personal care needs including continence aids, physiotherapy, podiatry, dietetics and speech pathology services, aromatherapy, walking aids wheelchairs, laundry, meals and essential toiletries. Fees are set by the Department of Health and Aging and are based on your Ore entry wealth assessment. It is urgent that you whole the Request for Riches Assessment and send the supporting documentation to the appropriate department of center unite or Veterans Affairs as soon as you have confirmation of your approval for entry into residential care. The home has a strong commitment to its quality improvement program and prides itself in the success of its Accreditation history. A Podiatrist visits the facility every six weeks. A dietitian visits the facility regularly to assess resident’s individual needs in relation to diet, dietary supplements etc. A physiotherapist visits the facility regularly to assess resident’s needs and implement a therapy program for the resident. Our aim will be to where possible, revitalize maintain movement mobility and relieve physical discomfort. Consultation with the pharmacist regarding medication regimes can be arranged on request. Staff are trained in the application of aromatherapy. Internal access is available to both areas via the hospital link. Relatives are welcome to use these facilities when visiting, either for time out for themselves or to share time with residents. A trolley from the Friends visits the home each week and routine purchases of sweets, magazines and a insignificant range of toiletries, can be arranged by advising the Office istrator. Family, relatives and friends are encouraged to participate in all activities and particular events within the facility. We also encourage family and friends to aid residents to maintain their usual community activities. We offer families the use of our facility for celebrations of special events involving the resident. Personal pets are welcome to visit the facility, but are not permitted to stay overnight. Families and friends are welcome to unite residents for a meal. Relatives are welcome at any time to help residents with their meals. Tea making facilities are available on each wing. Residents and relatives are welcome to use these facilities at any time. Residents should have assurance from their doctor that alcohol will not interfere with their medication. Consumption of alcohol must be in moderation and supervised by concern staff.
